Atmosphere: Just more than a month after opening near the Mall of Georgia, Wicked Sushi and Grill has started carving out a customer following with its cozy atmosphere and friendly staff.
Owner and head chef Rex Jeong, along with his wife, Kim, moved from Los Angeles to Georgia just over a year ago. And the couple brought a passion for sushi to the new restaurant.
The Jeongs spent the year searching for a good place to settle with their 2-year-old daughter before choosing an area near the Mall of Georgia.
“I’ve had more than nine years of experience, and we decided to move out here for my daughter and a chance to open up a restaurant,” Jeong said.
The couple began working on opening the restaurant in November by painting and organizing the dining establishment before officially opening the day after Valentine’s Day.
Wicked Sushi and Grill has a more modern feel to it compared to traditional Japanese restaurants. Smooth music courses throughout the restaurant, and guests have the option to sit in booths, tables or at the sushi bar.
Not only can patrons hear the sizzle of food on the grill and clanging of spatulas tending to customers’ orders, they can also get a behind the scenes look due to the open kitchen design.
Menu: One thing that stands out about Wicked Sushi and Grill is the extensive list of specialty rolls and regular sushi rolls it offers.
One of the most popular items, according to Jeong, is the Rattlesnake Tempura roll, which is made of an assortment of different spicy fish, crab stick, jalapeno and wrapped in an avocado tortilla before being deep fried and topped with house special sauce.
