The SF Giants are running America’s last Anchor Brewing bar

Last month, Anchor Steam Brewing Company ceased all production after parent company Sapporo could not find a buyer to take control of the famed San Francisco craft brewery. Since the bombshell news dropped, people have been clamoring to get their last taste of the popular pale ale and the other flavors. Lines extended out the door in the final days of the brewery’s now-closed tap house and supermarket shelves were left empty after San Franciscans bought up the few remaining cases. Undoubtedly, bars and restaurants are running out of the drink as we speak.

But there is one remaining Anchor-affiliated bar that will still sell Steam beer for the next two months: The Anchor Bar in Scoreboard Plaza at Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.

“It is our understanding from our distributor that they will keep us stocked for the remainder of the season,” Shana Daum, Senior Vice President of communications and community relations for the Giants, told SFGATE via email. “Both kegs and bottled product.”

Daum also confirmed that other Great House of Brews kiosks throughout the ballpark will also continue to sell the beer, though she did note that the organization “will adjust as needed if anything changes on the supply side.”

The Anchor Bar is one of the more popular places in the center field concourse behind the scoreboard. It’s located next to the immensely popular Crazy Crab’z sandwiches, which do pair well with Anchor Steam beer. The bar will keep The Anchor Bar moniker for the rest of the season, Daum confirmed.

While talks between Sapporo and former Anchor Brewing employees who want to buy the brand continue, Anchor Brewing could very well be sold piecemeal before the last drop is served at a Giants game. Sapporo was set to begin the liquidation process of the brand this month, when it would sell off the building, the equipment and all of the beer’s intellectual property.
