Taco Bell and DoorDash are doing something special to celebrate this Taco Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Sept. 12, the two companies will cover up to $5 million worth of tacos from over 20,000 Mexican restaurants nationwide, including dozens in Columbus.
The promotion, called the “Taco Tab,” is open to all DoorDash users outside of New Jersey to participate (more on that later). Users can simply add the code TACOTAB to their order when they place it through DoorDash. Users will then receive $5 off any order of $15 or more from a participating Mexican restaurant.
Participating restaurants in Columbus include Los Guachos Taqueria, Dos Hermanos, El Vaquero, Cazuelas, House Taco, Habaneros Tacos Tequila Mezcal, City Tavern, Bodega, Dulce Vida and more. A full list can be found here.
According to Taco Bell, up until recently, local restaurants were at risk of legal action if they used “Taco Tuesday” in their promotions.
Taco Bell petitioned to have Taco John’s trademark on “Taco Tuesday” reversed, with the competing chain relinquishing its trademark in 49 states in July. In New Jersey, the trademark is still held by Gregory Hotel, Inc.
“It’s been remarkable to see local restaurants already begin to celebrate Taco Tuesday their way, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with DoorDash to help elevate those small businesses even further,” said Taco Bell U.S. Chief Marketing Officer Taylor Montgomery, in a press release. “While Tuesdays hold a special place in our heart and will continue to do so, this celebration isn’t just about opening up a taco tab. It’s about championing every individual who makes, sells, eats and celebrates tacos. This Taco Tuesday is for them.”
