Fall may be the undisputed best season for coffee lovers — Pumpkin Spice Lattes, anyone? — but Starbucks is making spring a serious contender with the release of three new drinks, available this week, to celebrate the season.
The beverage we’re perhaps most excited to try is Starbucks’s Hazelnut Mocha Coconut Milk Macchiato; if you’re a fan of coffee and also the chocolate-y hazelnut spread known as Nutella (who isn’t?), brace yourself. The Hazelnut Mocha Coconut Milk Macchiato — available hot or iced — is made with steamed Sumatran coconut milk and hazelnut syrup, topped with espresso, and finished with a mocha drizzle. Basically, hazelnut + coconut milk + mocha = vegan Nutella with caffeine.
The second new option is the return of a fan favorite: The Cinnamon Almond Milk Macchiato, inspired by horchata, is made from their bold Espresso Roast, almond milk, and cinnamon dolce syrup with a caramel drizzle and sprinkle of cinnamon dolce topping. Finally, the Grande Iced Blonde Quad Caffè Americano features the new, lighter Blonde Espresso and is topped with water (“to produce a light layer of crema,” according to a press release), and served over ice. It should be noted that this version includes one extra espresso shot, so those who are sensitive to caffeine should beware.
Until now, there was only one way to get a Nutella-inspired Starbucks drink — serious ‘bucks fans could order a secret menu item called the Nutella Frappuccino by asking for a regular coffee frapp, two pumps of mocha syrup, one pump of hazelnut syrup, and whipped cream blended in. It’s about time Starbucks created an easy-to-order (and vegan!) option. Happy iced coffee season to all!
