If you’re often peckish on your way home from work or simply can’t decide what to make for dinner, then we have great news.
Because Starbucks is now offering 50% off food in 100 branches in the hour before closing.
In a bid to tackle food waste and poverty, they’re going to be slashing the price of their sandwiches, cakes and hot boxes – ‘offering food which would otherwise be thrown out at half price’.
And all the money raised through these discounted products will be donated to Action Against Hunger – a charity which works to support malnourished children.
This ‘50% off food, 100% to charity’ is only running in company-owned stores, not the franchise branches and will over all food that has a limited shelf-life. Alas, drinks won’t be included.
In order to avoid disappointment, you’ll need to check what time your local branch closes as there’s no uniform store hours. You can check your nearest Starbucks’ hours here.
As yet, they haven’t released the list of participating stores but Starbucks has already trialled the scheme in 16 stores in Manchester and will soon be rolling it across the UK.
‘Tackling a challenge like food waste is not an easy one, but we’re proud to have developed a programme which will deliver for the long term,’ says Simon Redfern, head of communications for Starbucks Europe.
‘Off the back of the success of our Manchester trial, we’re pleased to roll out this programme to the rest of our company owned British stores, and will be working with our franchise partners to see where else this programme could work as well.
‘Action Against Hunger is a respected international charity, and we’re looking forward to working with them on this initiative to support projects alleviating the impact of food poverty.’
We’ll let you know as soon as the discounts drop.
