Candy corn is one of the most divisive sweets ever, right alongside licorice. You either love them or hate them. But Sour Patch Kids is betting that fans of their treats are going to love them this Halloween, because they have released Sour Patch Kids Candy Corn in anticipation of the spooky holiday.
Foodie Instagram account Junk Banter spotted a package of the Halloween candy at a local Dollar General store, and shared the photo above on Instagram, writing, “[I] am pleasantly surprised with how much I like them.”
“Going with only orange & grape was a bold, bold move, but I’m especially in love with the grape,” Junk Banter’s caption noted. “It has a powdery sweetness and tastes like a sour, kickass version of Big League Chew. The orange is less special but good nonetheless.”
It appears that both candy corn lovers and haters are in for a win, because while the candies look like candy corn, they don’t exactly taste like it. “The best part about this candy corn is that is doesn’t taste remotely close to candy corn,” Junk Banter shared.
In Junk Banter’s post, several people commented how they can’t wait to try the sour treat. But turns out, they could have gotten a taste before. According to the blog The Impulsive Buy, Sour Patch Kids Candy Corn packages were sold at Walmart last year. On Twitter, some Sour Patch Kids customers shared their thoughts on the candy corn flavors when they first bought them in 2017.
“I THOUGHT THESE WOULD JUST BE SOUR PATCH KIDS SHAPED LIKE CANDY CORN FALSE THEYRE SOUR CANDY CORN,” one passionate user wrote in ALL CAPS, pointing out that the candies may taste more like candy corn than expected. Because candy corn, in whatever form, is serious business.
