Heinz Unveils ‘remix’ Sauce Dispenser With 200 Combinations

Kraft Heinz is giving the people what they want with a new customizable sauce machine called the Heinz Remix, which will have the ability to create more than 200 possible flavor combinations. The Heinz Remix, which was developed in just six months with help from Microsoft, is being unveiled at the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago this weekend.

If all goes according to plan, the company will pilot the machine in restaurants as soon as late 2023. Similarly to the Coca-Cola Freestyle, which was launched in 2009 and has proven to be wildly popular, consumers will use a touchscreen to select one of four base condiments: ketchup, ranch, 57 Sauce, or BBQ sauce.

The sauce dispenser then allows you to add in “enhancers” such as jalapeño, smoky chipotle, buffalo, and mango that can be set at low, medium, and high intensity levels.

It’s all part of Kraft Heinz’s pivot towards an away-from-home segment that has recently included expanded distribution in airports, “professional” mayonnaise marketed to chefs, and reformulated Lunchables that meet federal guidelines to be served in school lunch programs.

Kraft Heinz As a result, Kraft Heinz’s North American food service division reported sales growth of more than 25 percent in the first quarter of 2023. “We are very, very clear that away-from-home and foodservice gives us an opportunity to test, to learn, to understand and to build trends much earlier than we have done historically,” Peter Hall, Kraft Heinz’s head of its North American food service division, told CNBC.

Similarly to the Coca-Cola Freestyle, the company has plans to use data from the Heinz Remix to rollout new consumer products on grocery shelves. Popular Freestyle combinations have led to the introduction of new bottled beverages such as Sprite Cherry and Coke with Cherry and Vanilla.
