Some people might think of coffeehouses as a place for a quick power snack before rushing off to their next appointment; the food is OK, but usually it’s the drinks that are the star of the show.
However, at Glas the Green Coffeehouse in Sheboygan, there are a variety of options for a fresh, satisfying entrée to pair with your drink.
Most people do head over to the local coffeehouse for breakfast, so we’ll start there.
One unique, filling option is the Bagel Fresco, which is your choice of bagel with a heaping of hummus and avocado, as well as cream cheese and tomatoes, for a fresh blend of flavors.
Glas also offers a selection of breakfast burritos, including veggie, bacon and sausage and turkey. The turkey option features egg, cream cheese, sliced turkey breast, provolone, tomato and spinach. The flavors of the spinach and provolone blend well and are especially prevalent in the burrito.
For a lunch or dinner entrée, Glas has a variety of sandwiches served with a side of kettle chips or fruit on your choice of 8-grain or garlic panini bread.
The ham sandwich features smoked ham, a generous amount of white cheddar, tomato, avocado and spinach. The fresh cheese and avocado are especially prevalent in the mix of flavors.
A more unique option is perhaps the Cordon Bleu sandwich, inspired by the classic plate, which features ham, provolone and grilled chicken.
But, of course, it wouldn’t be a coffeehouse without the desserts and drinks (and drinks that are almost desserts!).
For tea aficionados, Glas offers a selection that can be served hot or iced. The Jasmine Green Tea is a satisfying blend of two classic flavors.
In the way of coffee, Glas offers all the traditional favorites along with some specialties for those with a sweet tooth, one being The Full Monkey, which has a rather fitting name when you look at the ingredients!
The Full Monkey features espresso, banana, peanut butter, pecans, chocolate sauce, Ghiradelli White Chocolate Frappe mix, milk and ice blended together for a nice cheat-day drink.
Glas tends to switch up its dessert offerings day to day, but from pecan pie to giant cookies to a variety of dessert bars and muffins, there is no lack of options.
The unique name “Glas” is the Gaelic word for “green,” which the coffeehouse’s website says reflects their “strong Irish heritage and our commitment to protecting the environment.”
According to the website, the Sheboygan location has gone green in a variety of ways, from repurposing the comfortable couches in the lounge area from local thrift shops, to a rain garden that was incorporated into the landscaping outside the building to filter run-off water before entering the river. They also source locally as much as possible.
Bicycle riders and those who bring in reusable thermos will receive discounts for reducing their impact on the environment.
