A fair and festival favorite is the star of the menu at a new Lawrenceville eatery.
Fancy Funnel Cake, which opened last week, offers the deep-fried dish made with flour and eggs and typically covered in powdered sugar in a variety of variations both sweet and savory.
Categories include Fancy Funnel Cakes such as the Birthday Fun Cake made with sprinkles, powdered sugar, ice cream and whipped cream and Cookie’s Funnel Cheesecake served with cheesecake slices, graham cracker crust, powdered sugar and whipped cream; Very Fancy Funnel Cakes that include The Marylander, made with Maryland crab and sprinkled with Old Bay seasoning and powdered sugar; Fancy Funnel Sandwich Cakes including sandwich ingredients such as turkey and chicken between two funnel cakes; and Fancy Breakfast Treats including the Frosty Frooty Loopy served with Froot Loops, powdered sugar and vanilla ice cream.
Husband and wife Kashaun and Domonique Cooper, both natives of the northeast, came up with the concept for Fancy Funnel Cake in 2014.
Fancy Funnel Cake is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
