Eater’s ‘Most Kid-Friendly Restaurants’ List Includes Three UWS Eateries

Eater just put out its list of ‘The Most Kid-Friendly Restaurants in NYC,’ and if you need validation that you made the right decision to move to the Upper West Side once you found out your family would be growing, the foodie publication included not one, not two, but three UWS restaurants that your children will be content with.

Good Enough To Eat, the longstanding Upper West Side restaurant which now transforms into Telio Taverna for dinner, was the first local spot mentioned on Eater’s list, with the publication emphasizing its make-your-own burger and sandwich options along with its thick and tasty milkshakes. There’s no specific ‘kids menu,’ but if you’ve got a picky eater on your hands, the weirdest thing going on here is a warm quinoa salad with butternut squash, which really isn’t that weird. A selection of pancakes, waffles and French toast along with omelettes and breakfast sides are available daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and after 11:00 a.m., a whole bunch of salads and sandwiches, too. GETE has also built a reputation for its biscuits with strawberry butter and its cakes and pies.

Telio Taverna’s menu (available from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.) is probably a bit more exotic by most kids’ standards, but they do have gyros, which I enjoyed quite a bit as a kid. So naturally, I assume all of your kids will like them.

Parm

Parm

Parm has a few locations in the city, but Eater listed its UWS address, so we’ll run with that. The Italian comfort food restaurant has a kids menu offering chicken fingers, spaghetti & meatballs, and make-your-own pasta and hero options. The rest of the menu has quite a few kid-centric dishes, too: mozz stick and meatball appetizers, baked ziti and chicken parm, and ice cream cakes which have earned their own press coverage.

Old John’s Luncheonette, which returned thoroughly redone in 2021 after its 2020 shuttering, made the list because “Diners are great for kids” and this one was “made to look more sleekly retro-modern.” The lunch and dinner kids’ menu offers chicken fingers, a junior burger and a grilled cheese – all of which go for $10 and come with french fries and pickles. The rest of the menu is filled with kid-friendly classics like waffles, pancakes and eggs for breakfast, burgers and sandwiches, and sweets including ice cream sodas, if you want to show them what your childhoods (or probably their grandparents’ childhoods) were like.
