Austin’s Small Victory lands on Esquire’s Top 50 martinis in America

Only two Texas bars made the list.

Whether you like your martinis, dry, dirty, or shaken, you may want to visit this Central Texas bar for some of the best. Esquire named Austin’s Small Victory bar on their 2023 list of the Best Martinis in America.

Only two Texas bars made Esquire’s list, the other being Houston’s Little’s Oyster Bar. Small Victory caught the attention of Esquire writer Kevin Sintumuang, who recognized the bar’s Small Victory Martini as one of the best despite describing Austin as “very much a beer, shot and margarita town.”

Located on the second floor of an East 7th Street multi-level downtown parking garage and across the street from the historic Driskill Bar entrance, sits Small Victory’s dimly lit, long bar with bench seating, according to Austin blogger Dawn The Gourmand

Small Victory opened in January 2016 and his since taken on the reputation of a “hidden,” “speakeasy” vibe with a “casual meets swanky” feel, according to Dawn. Sintumuang added that when he needs “a break from that – and yes, you need a break from that – I find myself climbing a staircase in a parking garage to find the hidden entrance to Small Victory, where they really know how to make a martini.”

Sintumuang said there’s a flow chart on the menu that guides guests through some personalization, “but you can also leave it in the hands of the bartenders, who have dozens of riffs of the martini on hand.”

Above all, Sintumuang ends his review with, “Be ready to discover a new favorite.”
