Michigan’s Best Local Eats: Refreshing, Sparkling ‘shimmers’ From Sips

Sips, a new coffee shop located inside downtown Saginaw’s SVRC Marketplace, offers coffee and espresso drinks, tea and refreshing, sparkling “shimmers.”

The iced, caffeine-free drink is made with lemonade, club soda, custom flavors and “popping pearls.”

“They’re pretty fun,” said Heather Shephard, who is the co-manager of Café 476, 6235 Gratiot Road, and now runs Sips, which is under the same ownership. “The popping pearls…when you bite into them, they pop.”

Shephard said shimmers, which come in a variety of flavor combinations, are a popular staple at the Gratiot Road location.

“The strawberry with mango popping pearls is fabulous,” she said. “That one’s so good.”

Sips also offers “tea-ades,” which are half tea and half lemonade.

“We have a blackberry lavender tea-ade that is very popular,” she said.

Sips, 203 S. Washington Ave., also offers coffee, espresso drinks, bagels, bacon keto cups made by Makin’ Bacon and more. The SVRC Marketplace is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, but Sips opens early at 8 a.m.
